STETHOSCOPES

The AIDA stethoscope symbolises the history and future of First Nations medicine as each additional doctor and Fellow works to change the landscape of healthcare across Australia.

STETHOSCOPE REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN SOON

Graduating as a medical doctor or a Fellow is a huge achievement, and it is a privilege to be able to celebrate with you as you help to contribute towards equitable health outcomes.

To mark this momentous achievement in becoming an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander doctor and/or Fellow, all AIDA members are gifted with a hand-painted AIDA stethoscope upon graduating from medical school and/or becoming a Fellow.

Unframed stethoscope with certificate: Provided to Indigenous medical graduates upon completion of medical school. Unframed stethoscopes are typically awarded during internship year (PGY1) or thereafter.

Framed stethoscope: Provided to Indigenous medical doctors who have attained Fellowship with one of the 15 specialist colleges accredited by Ahpra. Eligible Fellows may receive a second framed stethoscope, subject to meeting the same eligibility as applied to their initial allocation.

AIDA will present the appropriate stethoscope to members during a special ceremony at the Gala Dinner on 5 September during our annual conference. To receive your stethoscope, you must notify the AIDA Membership Team by filling out the application form.

EligibilityTo be considered for a stethoscope allocation, eligible members must submit a completed application form to the AIDA Secretariat. All applications will be reviewed and approved by the Membership Committee, a sub-committee of the AIDA Board.

Applicants must:

  • Provide documentation confirming graduation or attainment of Fellowship.
  • Be within six (6) years of graduation or the attainment of Fellowship.
  • Have been a financial AIDA member at the time of graduation or Fellowship
  • Have maintained financial AIDA membership for a minimum of 12 months prior to receiving a stethoscope. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis for members with less than 12 months of membership.

Key Dates: Applications are not yet open, but will close on Friday, 3 July 2026.

If you are receiving a framed stethoscope at the AIDA 2026 Conference, please ensure to have space in your luggage to take the frame home as you will be responsible for transporting it with you.
